What we're about
A group of approximately 20 carers and their partners who are committed to caring for orphaned and injured wildlife until safely released to their natural environment, and to raising awareness of the needs of our native wildlife to ensure continuity of a diverse and healthy eco system.
Lorraine De Weys O.A.M. is the co-ordinator of the group which has carers located across the north and north east regions of the state. Lorraine began her wildlife work approximately 25 years ago and this has now grown into a registered group. She maintains contact with carers, and other similar groups and organizations across the state.

Objectives
- care for orphaned and injured wildlife
- successfully return wildlife to their natural habitat
- work co-operatively alongside other organisations with similar aims
- share information about needs/care/facilities for wildlife
- educate the community about the needs of our wildlife and what can be done to help them be actively involved in education to raise awareness among children and adults about wildlife
- work together to raise finance to assist with the cost of building facilities and providing food
Within the membership are people who offer care for native animals and birds -rare and common- from tiny to mature.
Visits with animals are made to nursing homes and other facilities upon request.
The group is actively involved in the Veterinary Association’s, Pets and People Education Program visiting schools to talk about wildlife.
Native Animal Rescue has produced a pamphlet that gives children the information they need to assist with the rescue of injured wildlife. Emphasis has been placed on the child being able to keep itself safe while doing this.
