OPEN DAYS in January & February were a great success, with well over 100 people visiting the site. Mayor Bury and Cr. David Grace attended in February.
Gordon Silver brought two ships-in-bottles that were made by some of the crew of the Oberhausen while they were interned at Bruny in 1914. As a young man, Gordon's father, Joseph Fails Alphonso Smart-Silver, used to help out his Step-father, Tom Smart, an Old Hobart waterman who owned two boats named The Phoebe and The Nancy, and these sailed to Bruny with supplies. On one such trip Joseph bought the two ships-in-bottles from the prisoners.
Small treasures are starting to appear, as many visiting the site have a connection to its past history, and tucked away are some papers and photos which they are prepared to share.
FOBIQS look forward to the year ahead with working bees and open days planned. If you would like to join us please email Kathy Duncombe kdunc@netspace.net.au or Peter Williams peterfwill@gmail.com

Stone fireplace, possibly built by German woodcutters. One of the interesting features of an exploration of the Bruny Island Quarantine Station site.
