Whale Rescue First Response Team - Strahan

The Whale Rescue First Response Team - Strahan was formed following a stranding response training course in December 2007. Our members remain in contact with Belinda Coulson who works with Parks and Wildlife Service. We are available to respond to requests for rapid response to strandings in the general area of  Strahan and the west coast generally. We hope also to undertake whale-spotting activities as whales migrate up and down the West Coast as well as other activities related to whale conservation.

In order to be an active member of a Whale Rescue First Response Team it is essential that you have completed the one-day training course in Whale Rescue, conducted by Parks and Wildlife Service.

Keep an eye on the Calendar of Events for information about upcoming courses in your area. If you have undertaken a Whale Rescue training course with Parks and Wildlife Service in the last two years and would like to join this group please contact Belinda (link below)

If you have not undertaken training as yet but are interested in being available as a "second wave" volunteer, register your interest in Whale Rescue by ticking the appropriate box in the Nature Care section of the membership form. You will then receive direct notification of training courses in your area. Untrained volunteers are sometimes called up by WILDCARE if a rescue event is extended or involves large numbers of whales. Safety and rescue technique training will be provided on site on those occasions.
