Being a WILDCARE volunteer
On the WILDCARE membership form you can choose to nominate the type of volunteer work you would like to be involved in. When assistance is requested from our partners Parks and Wildlife Service, Heritage Tasmania and Resource Management and Conservation in Department of Primary Industries Parks Water and Environment the WILDCARE Office will notify those people registered for that type of work. You can choose to become involved as your time allows.
You may also like to specify a particular WILDCARE Inc group that you would like most to assist. In this case you will automatically be listed as a member of that group and be notified of all volunteer activities undertaken by them.
Of course you can choose simply to be a financial member, knowing that your membership fee helps support the volunteers and volunteer projects.
Conditions of volunteering
WILDCARE Inc has a number of procedures that must be completed in order to authorise the work you are undertaking as a volunteer. These procedures are contained in the WILDCARE Inc Book - Procedures manual. The Ranger or other staff member supervising the project, or the President of a CARes group, is responsible for ensuring that authorisation is requested and recieved prior to any work being undertaken. WILDCARE only takes responsibility for projects and individual members once authorisation is issued.
Members who are volunteering on a Parks and Wildlife Service project need to fill out the PWS forms associated with that project as the PWS takes responsibility for your safety and supervision in those circumstances. It is essential that members obey instructions given by the PWS or other Project leader.
Overview of our work
WILDCARE Inc members provide over 250,000 hours of volunteer assistance to reserve management, and natural and cultural heritage conservation every year, ranging from whale rescue to track management, bird counting to building restoration, weed removal to injured wildlife care. If it's work that needs to be done - we do it - in partnership with government agencies responsible for land and conservation management and other like-minded community groups.
