Start Date: 15/05/2010 | End Date: 15/05/2010
This session will provide an overview and refresher on how to key out plant specimens using published or on line keys.
Working with threatened plants challenges us all to identify rare or unusual plant specimens. Usually we are assisted by images and experts during TPT Field Trips. But what about those unfamiliar plants on other walks in the bush? And how are the experts learning their trade?
Our guest, Alan Gray, is a contributing author to the Flora of Tasmania Online and has previously taught Botany of the Bush adult education classes. He is uniquely qualified to lead us in a discussion of the principles and practice of keying out specimens from the Tasmanian flora. Alan’s preference is for a lot of hands-on and a lot of interaction, with questions and demonstrations. He is not planning to make the session complicated or too technical.
This is also a chance to bring in specimens of any native plants that you wish to have identified.
If you plan to attend please email threatenedplantstas@gmail.com or phone Phil on 0438002615. This will help us to plan catering.
