MONITORING THREATENED FLORA PRE AND POST FIRE

Start Date: 24/07/2010 | End Date: 24/07/2010

ACTIVITY: to rescore the existing lichen and woody shrub plots established last year. LOCATION: Pontville

WHERE: Ford Road, Pontville (meet at car park on the western side of Jordan River)

WHEN: Saturday 24 July 2010, start at 9:30am

ACTIVITY: to rescore the existing lichen and woody shrub plots established last year for monitoring the endangered grassland lichens Xanthoparmelia amphixantha and Xanthoparmelia molliuscula, and the endangered woody plants, Cryptandra amara and Pultenaea prostrata. This will be the first rescoring of these plots since the ecological burn on this site conducted in March 2010, and will contribute to a better understanding of the effects of fire on these species.

We will be working with Dr Richard Schahinger of the Threatened Species Section on the day and this work will add to the records compiled through the generous effort of volunteers to date.

New and previous volunteers are most welcome; the only requirements are an interest in detail and in spending the time looking closely at the ground for these little plants!

You will need to dress warmly, and bring lunch and drinks. Morning tea cake will be provided.

If you would like to participate please email threatenedplantstas@gmail.com or phone Alison on 62781795 (after hours), and also let us know if you need transport, maps or have any questions.
