Nature Writing Prize winner

The winning entry is "Broken Mouth - Offerings for the Don River" by Maureen Scott Harris of Toronto, Canada. Maureen wins $A5 000, return airfares to Tasmania, and a two week residency in a Tasmanian national park.

The two minor prizes of $250 are:

"The City Lorikeets" by Noelle Janaczewska of Pyrmont, NSW, and

"Holding Pattern" by Louise Crisp of Bairnsdale, Vic.

There were also three Highly Commended entries:

"Kwatye" by Michael Giacometti (Alice Springs, NT)
"Aurora" by Anne Morgan (Cascades, Tas), and
"Turtle Tears" by Elizabeth Hutchins (Learrook, SA).

The 2009 prize attracted 140 entries, more than for any previous year. They came from every Australian state and territory, and countries as far spread as Greece, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Spain, Canada and the USA.
